Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at exotictexasknives@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We recommend carefully washing your knives by hand with warm, soapy water and drying them immediately to prevent rust and damage to the blades.

If you purchase a Damascus knife. The blade needs to be oiled regularly, we recommend putting food-grade safe mineral oil on a cotton rag run it over the blade once a week.

Stainless Damascus is considered relatively safe from rust, but it never hurts to keep a knife oiled.

1095 Damascus will need to be oiled regularly, we recommend weekly.

The safest option for seasoning a knife to avoid rust, is Food-Grade Mineral Oil.

Other Options include:

Food-grade mineral oil: This is a great, affordable, and readily available option that is safe for food contact.

  • Camella oil or Tsubaki oil: This is a traditional and excellent choice. It's naturally anti-rust, food-safe, and won't go rancid.

For non-kitchen knives

  • Gun oil or general mineral oil: These are suitable for knives that don't come into contact with food, providing good rust protection.
  • Knife-specific lubricating oil: These products are designed specifically for carbon and Damascus steel and offer long-lasting protection, especially for outdoor use.
  • Renaissance wax or other waxes: Waxes can be a good alternative, especially for long-term storage, as they protect the blade without attracting dust like oils can.

An Everyday Carry (EDC) knife is a compact, reliable fixed-blade or folding knife that you carry with you virtually every day as part of your regular pocket or belt gear — just like your wallet, keys, phone, or watch. It’s designed to be a general-purpose tool for routine tasks, not a weapon. Think of it as the modern equivalent of the knife your granddad always had on him.

In short: An EDC knife is simply a modern, high-quality tool you keep on you because — like a good pair of boots — it makes everyday life a little easier and prepares you for the unexpected, all while looking good on your hip. Carry it proudly. Use it responsibly.

Typical EDC knife traits (especially the fixed-blade versions we sell)

  • Blade length usually 2.5–4.5 inches (small enough to be legal and non-intimidating in most places, big enough to actually work)
  • Overall length 6–9 inches so it rides comfortably on the belt or in a pocket
  • Comes with a secure, fitted sheath (horizontal or vertical carry)
  • Tough, non-slip handle and a full-tan

  • Stronger (no moving parts to fail)
  • Faster and safer to deploy one-handed
  • Easier to clean after dirty jobs
  • Generally legal to carry in more places when worn openly on the belt (Texas loves this style)
